Dojo News for June

As you will have noticed, or even had the chance to participate in the work, the dojo is undergoing a facelift!  Thanks to everyone who has taken part in the renovation: the painting, the moving of the furniture, and although it is not yet completely finished there will be a desk.  Dick Miller is custom making one to fit the office space from wood that came from Chiba Sensei’s San Diego Dojo – the entryway already feels more open and inviting.

I’d like to draw your attention to the Birankai Aikido News and an announcement that has just been released that the Chiba Sensei Biography, ‘The Life-Giving Sword’, long in the making, is in the final stages of publication, and the hard bound version should be ready at Summer Camp. Details of the book will be at the dojo.

Looking Ahead:

  • A change to the date to hold a special class in honor of Chiba Sensei.  It will now be held during the Saturday class, June 9.
  • We are looking forward to hosting Neilu Naini Sensei on Saturday, June 16.  The day of training will be followed by a catered Mexican dinner from Mi Ranchita Restaurant.  We need everyone’s support to host a successful event.  Stefano is in charge of co-ordinating the seminar preparation. This is a 2-day seminar and on the Sunday will be held at San Diego Aikikai.  Please try to make both days.
  • The dojo will be closed for Independence Day, Wednesday, July 4th!
  • Because of the number of our students attending Summer Camp this year, we will be closing the dojo for adult classes from Thursday, July 19 through Thursday, July 26.  We are looking into keeping the children’ program going.  Registration for Summer Camp closes on June 4th if you are hoping to stay on campus.
  • If any of you are holding back for financial reasons (or any others), please come and see me.  Please watch the bulletin board at the dojo for further announcements.
  • The doors are open for registration for the Women’s Aikido Camp, Santa Fe, NM, September 13-16.  Contact: www.aikidoofkohala.org
