Dojo News for May

April has passed quickly.  One of the high points for me, because of its challenging nature, was sesshin.  It is a remarkable experience, to sit so closely with a group of people, for so long, in silence, all getting on with their own business! The 1,000 cut suburi held this past Sunday in the dojo, in honor of O’Sensei’s memorial, was like a mini sesshin! Challenging to keep going, but when through, what a great feeling of accomplishment!

Looking ahead:

  • On Wednesday, June 6, I will hold a special class to honor my teacher, Chiba Sensei. We will chant the Heart Sutra and there will be an opportunity for those of you who wish to do so, to light incense. June 5th is his Memorial Day.
  • We are looking forward to hosting Neilu Naini Sensei on Saturday, June 16.  The day of training will be followed by a catered dinner.  Please see this as a 2-day seminar so that we can continue training with her at San Diego Aikikai the following day, Sunday.
  • We have a good group from our dojo attending Summer Camp this year and in case you are intending to go and haven’t yet signed up, the deadline for early registration is May 7th, after that the fees go up.  A roundtrip fare on Southwest is around $250 at the moment.  If any of you are holding back for financial reasons (or any others), please come and see me. The camp is being held again at the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA from July 20-25.
  • The doors are open for registration for the Women’s Aikido Camp, Santa Fe, NM, September 13-16.  Contact: www.aikidoofkohala.org
