Dojo News for May

April was a very active month and the energy generated from our 1,122 cut suburi, Roo Sensei’s visit and O’Sensei’s memorial practice was gratifying.  The month ended on a quieter but nevertheless intense note with sesshin in San Diego. Dojo energy has been recharged and my goal for this month is to see that it doesn’t flag!  Of course, your contribution is essential to the mix. 
 
  • June 5th will mark one year since Chiba Sensei passed.  How we will acknowledge this as a dojo is still to be decided.
  • Birankai Summer Camp June 9 – 14 is fast approaching and those of you who will not be going will be pleased to hear that Norm Wight will be visiting for a few days and will be teaching some classes.  I know you will make him welcome.  For those of you going you will be representing our dojo to the community. Please think about buying raffle tickets proceeds fro ticket sales help pay for scholarships within our community. Betails will be coming soon.
  • We have been invited by the Mingei Museum in Balboa Park to give an aikido demonstration in collaboration with a poetry reading by Hiromi Ito. Hiromi is one of the most prominent woman writers of contemporary Japan. This opens up some exciting possibilities and I will keep you informed as ideas develop.  The date has been set for Friday evening, August 19.
  • This is the 25th year that I have had the privilege to teach Aikido under the banner of North County Aikikai.  This truly is a feat worthy of celebration!  At this point, we are mulling over ideas and are open to suggestions …
