Aikido emerged from Japanese culture and incorporates the most refined of its martial and spiritual traditions. Weapons training using wooden sword and staff, and Iai Batto-ho (art of drawing, cutting and sheathing a sword) reveal the martial roots of our practice while meditation its spiritual source. These practices support and inform our aikido practice. They play an integral part in the development of mind/body clarity and coordination. Our classes include instruction in:
- Bokken and Jyo - Wooden sword and staff.
- Iaido - The samurai art of swordsmanship, which includes drawing, cutting, and sheathing the blade.
- Zazen - A practice in meditation, an element of Zen Buddhism, performed while sitting.
